A two-day workshop on "New Vistas of Sports Law: Challenges and Opportunities:" under the media partnership of Sports Kreeda

 A two-day workshop on "New Vistas of Sports Law: Challenges and Opportunities" jointly organized by the Sports Economics and Marketing Department of the Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, University of Delhi and the Indian Society for International Law (ISIL), organized at the conference hall of the Indian Society for International Law, New Delhi . Railway Sports Board in-charge, Rekha Yadav has inaugurated the workshop. On the occasion of inauguration, Rekha Yadav said that the scenario of the sports is changing in India today, so where new opportunities are coming, new challenges are also emerging. Therefore, it is necessary that the system to regulate the game also develop. Secretary General of the Indian Society for International Law, Prof S. K. Verma considered the need of sports law is very important .As the sports-law is a new area and the outcomes from this workshop will play an important role in making the law. She hoped that the workshop's recommendations will play an important role in forming Sports Law. Principal of  SGTB Khalsa College, Dr. Jaswinder Singh underlined the role of the sports federations in the development and regulation of sports.He said that our sports associations are not being changed according to the changing international sports scenario. He further added that sports associations should take along the universities in the impressive implementation of sports policies. Dr. P. Arun also spoke on the issue of sports betting while quoting very interesting sports references. He said that concept of the workshop is designed by  Dr. Smita Mishra, in-charge of the Khalsa College's Sports Economics and Marketing Course and the Indian Society of  International Law, Ms. Parineet Kaur.

In the first session of the workshop, TV Sports Commentator and writer Arjun J. Choudhury explained the need for Sports Law while highlighting the changing scenario of the sports at the international and national levels. He explained the efforts of the Pierre de Coubertin and Antonio Samaranch to make  Olympic as biggest sports brand . In the second session, the Secretary General of the Indian Sports Law Association Dr. Amresh Kumar explained the concept of Sports Law through Indian and International Case Studies.

In the last session of the first day of the workshop, Sports blogger Vaibhav Gulati, explained the process of Olympic bidding  in a interesting way.

The first session of the second day of the workshop was focused on sports and arbitration, which was taken by Supreme Court Advocate Shivam Singh. Shivam underlined the need for career in sports law, he felt the growing need for arbitration in sports. Due to increasing lawsuits in the court today, the trend of resolving cases outside the court is increasing. In this legal scenerio sports is not an exception. In India, very few sports cases have gone to Court of Sports Arbitration . Indian sprinter Dutichand case is the landmark Indian case.

The next session was based on Intellectual Property Law, in which Dr. Vikrant Narayan Vasudev spoke on patents, copyright law, trademark, broadcasting rights in the field of sports. He talked about Usain Bolt's personality rights and trade mark case. Robin Nirvani, Marketing Professional, Baiyucung Boutia Academy, discusses the development of grass-root sports, detailing the contract of the player and academy.

India’s well known Lawyer Vidushpat Singhania talked about Doping in sports in the next session. In this reference he explained the clauses of NADA and WADA .He also mentioned the infamous case of Narsingh Yadav .
The last session of the second day of the workshop was  the Panel Discussion on the issue of ‘Whether sports betting should be legalized’.  In this discussion, Ranjana official, partner of the country's prestigious sports law firm Nishith Desai Associates, talks about gaming law in India. She advocates that sports betting should be legalized in order to regulate the sports .  Chief guest of the program Prahlad Singh Patel (MP) advocated not to give legal recognition to sports betting. He further added that for sports regulation, it is necessary to make sports law. Khalsa College Principal Dr. Jaswinder Singh expresses his opposition to sports betting. He said that the players come from very humble background, so there are very much chances to being exploited in the name of sports betting. Dr. Amaresh Kumar, secretary of the India Sports Law Association, strongly put his views against sports betting.. The discussion was conducted by All India Radio Sports commentator Kulwinder Singh Kang.

In the end of the session Vice President ,ISIL,Dr Luther Rangrezi had given vote of thanks.
